Is the ShockStop Stem compatible with internal cable routing?Updated a month ago
Yes, the Shockstop Stem is compatible with most internal cable routing, where the cables route through the top cover of the headset. The ShockStop stem is not compatible with bikes that feature fully integrated cable routing through the stem itself. See below for the differentiation and examples of each!
Internal or Semi-Integrated Routing (most common, compatible with ShockStop stem)
This is the less extreme form of cable routing on modern bikes.
The Path: Cables and hoses are run outside the handlebar and stem (often tucked under bar tape) and enter the frame via ports on the side of the head tube or downtube.
Stem Impact: The stem is largely standard, though it may include a special spacer. You can easily swap your stem with the ShockStop stem without disconnecting or bleeding brake or shift lines, as the cables bypass the steerer tube entirely.

Integrated Routing (not compatible with ShockStop stem)
This system provides the cleanest, most aerodynamic look by hiding everything, but it means that the ShockStop stem will not be compatible with your bike.
The Path: Cables run inside the handlebar, through a proprietary or specially designed stem, and then through the headset (around the steerer tube) before entering the frame.
Stem Impact: This requires a specific stem with internal channels (the ShockStop stem does not have internal channels for cabling and cannot be modified to include these).
